Red Soil - Burning Hearts

“This is the story of a forest that refused silence and a boy who turned memory into revolution.”

— Dr Rahul Nandigam

Brief Synopsis

In the red forests of Bastar, where history is enforced at gunpoint and silence is policy, a boy named Arjun grows up watching memory burn. Taught by an underground teacher, shaped by loss, and hardened by state violence, he helps build something unprecedented—a people’s republic rooted not in flags or borders, but in education, testimony, and a banyan tree that remembers every name erased. As the state moves to crush this forest-born constitution, Arjun must choose between becoming a weapon—or becoming an idea that outlives him.

Red Soil - Burning Hearts

The biography of a revolution

Red Soil – Burning Hearts: A Biography of a Revolution tells the gripping story of courage, resistance, and the human spirit behind a revolutionary movement. Set against a backdrop of political and social upheaval, it explores the lives of those who dared to challenge injustice. A powerful narrative of sacrifice, hope, and the fight for change.

Set in the dense red-soil forests of Bastar, this novel traces the life of Arjun, a boy born into a world where land is stolen by paperwork, silence is enforced by guns, and memory itself is a battleground. After witnessing brutal state and feudal violence against his family and community, Arjun is drawn into a movement that refuses both surrender and amnesia. Guided by Veena, a radical teacher who believes education is the slowest and most dangerous form of rebellion; Meera, a constitutional idealist turned witness; Dev, an archivist of forbidden words; and Tara, a strategist who treats survival as geometry, Arjun becomes central to an extraordinary experiment. Under a towering banyan tree, villagers build a parallel republic—schools without walls, courts without prisons, and a constitution written in memory, song, and soil. As this Forest Parliament grows, the state responds with surveillance, propaganda, and militarized force, determined to erase the idea before it spreads. Caught between armed resistance and ethical revolution, Arjun must confront a defining question: can mercy, memory, and collective learning outlast the violence of power? This is a political epic about resistance, myth-making, and the dangerous act of remembering in a world designed to forget.

Behind the Story

The writing process, inspiration, and “How I Got the Idea” of this novel.

‘Red Soil, Burning Hearts’ is truly inspired by the fact that as a growing child in my family, as my father and paternal uncle are advocates and I heard about the struggles and social justice and system in the society. Different lives of downtrodden and stories of forests also people standing on support, I tried to capture this in the most sensitive manner in this story so that this generation and coming generations can know what has happened in history, which can lead to motivate and inspire.

I feel truly, greatly thankful for my parents, elder brother and paternal uncle, who has inspired him, supported him and encouraged him in this new phase of his life as a writer, bringing my first book into publication and realising my dream.
